Birdy is a super cute raglan sweater that is knitted from the bottom up. The pattern includes good instructions on how to embroider. It only uses backstitch. Embroidering on knit with this method is much easier than you think :)

About the embroidery:

There are 9 different birds included in the pattern. Embroider as many as you like.

The birds are embroidered with only one type of stitch, backstitch. Follow the instructions and drawings in the pattern.

We first embroider the outline around the shapes, then we fill in with colors inside (fill stitches).

The fill stitches should be as close as possible to avoid the background color showing through. They can be overlapped to your advantage.

It's nice to vary the length of these stitches.

NB! The look will be most beautiful if you let the stitches follow the curves of the shapes.

Sizes:

Sizes: 1 (2) 4 (6) 8 (10) years

Overall width: 62 (65) 69 (73) 76 (80) cm

Total length: 34 (36) 38 (43) 47 (51) cm

The measurements given are not body measurements but measurements of the finished knitted sweater if the correct knitting tension is followed. The sizes are indicative.

Guiding pins:

Circular needle: 3 ½ and 4 mm

Double pointed needles: 3 ½ and 4 mm

Knitting strength:

22 stitches x 30 rounds stocking stitch on 4 mm needles = 10 x 10 cm

Yarn for sweater:

Arwetta and Tilia from Filcolana

971 Sand Arwetta : 100 (150) 150 (200) 200 (200) grams

336 Latte Tilia: 50 (75) 75 (100) 100 (100) grams

There are many yarn alternatives for this knitting tension. If you choose a different yarn, it is important that you check the running length.

Yarn for embroidery:

101 Natural White

352 Squirrel

201 Deep Mahogany

136 Mustard

254 Coral

198 Tangerine

It is up to you whether you want to buy the embroidery thread we have used, or whether you want to use leftover yarn that you already have. NB! Remember that if you use leftover yarn, you must be sure that the yarn you embroider with is made of the same material as the yarn you knit the vest with. We therefore recommend embroidering a little on a sample patch and test washing it, if you are unsure about the yarn choice. Different quality of yarn can cause the garment to be damaged in the wash.

Other accessories:

Sewing ring with diameter approx. 7.5 cm

Water-soluble fleece 9 pieces of approximately 10x10 cm (you need one piece for each bird)

Pointed needle
