Digital embroidery pattern of the two cheerful fox brothers dancing. You can embroider the fox brothers on whatever you like! Choose just one of them or embroider both. It works beautifully on a sweater, a jacket, a vest, a cushion, or perhaps a dress. The motif is taken from the children’s book “The Fox Who Had So Much on His Mind”, which you can also purchase from us. The book is illustrated by Vibeke Høie, and written by Øystein Kristoffersen Hansen (published by Gleding Forlag). Enjoy!

Is this your first time embroidering on knitwear? Take a look at the short video clips of the process on our Instagram account: @bytheknittingstories. There is also a step-by-step photo guide on our website. Take your time to go through it before you start – it will make it easier to get going.

About the embroidery: The motif is stitched using only one type of stitch, the backstitch. Follow the diagrams in the pattern. First, we embroider the outlines of the figures, then we fill in the colors inside (satin filling stitches). The filling stitches should be as dense as possible to prevent the background color from showing through. They may overlap each other. It is good to vary the length of these stitches. Note: The result looks best when you let the stitches follow the curves of the shapes – this brings the figures to life. Use many stitches, both small and large.

Materials list:

  • A sharp needle
  • A grey pencil
  • An embroidery hoop with a diameter of at least 15 cm (you can find it here!)
  • Eco Vita embroidery thread from DMC (see colours in the pattern). One skein of each colour.
  • Water-soluble interfacing
  • Embroidery thread: You can choose whether to use Mouliné (DMC) or Eco Vita (DMC). The pattern includes colour codes for both.
