The digital pattern “The Busy Bee” contains two bees that can be embroidered together or separately. It works beautifully on a sweater, a dress, a bag, or a cushion.

Is this your first time embroidering on knitwear? Take a look at the short video clips of the process on our Instagram account: @bytheknittingstories. There is also a step-by-step photo guide on our website. Take your time to go through it before you start – it will make it easier to get going.

About the embroidery: The motif is stitched using only one type of stitch, the backstitch. Follow the diagrams in the pattern. First, we embroider the outlines of the figures, then we fill in the colors inside (satin filling stitches). The filling stitches should be as dense as possible to prevent the background color from showing through. They can advantageously overlap each other. It is good to vary the length of these stitches. NOTE! The result looks best when you let the stitches follow the curves of the shapes – this brings the figures to life. Use many stitches, both small and large.

Materials list – in addition to the pattern you will need:

  • A sharp needle
  • A grey pencil
  • An embroidery hoop with a diameter of at least 12 cm
  • Water-soluble interfacing
  • Embroidery thread: You can choose whether to use Eco Vita wool thread or DMC Mouliné thread for your embroidery.
